Manager Sam Alvarado, the founders' grandson, said confrontations escalated over the past few weeks — including an episode in which a customer charged the door and refused to leave, prompting police to be called — and that protecting employees and patrons made the difficult decision necessary despite foregoing dine-in sales after only two weeks of reopening.
