"This fall they are expanding the company outside of Brooklyn for the first time with a 400-square-foot Lower East Side shop at 116B Allen Street near Stanton Street. Unlike the original, the new location will offer a deliberately limited menu focused on the most popular Brooklyn items—Caribbean beef patties, coconut drops, codfish balls, bake and saltfish, and currant rolls—in an approach Christian Smith, the founders' grandson, calls "More depth than breadth." All baked goods sold there will be made in Brooklyn, and there is talk of selling ice cream cakes and black cakes (rum-soaked fruit cakes) as additional offerings." - Luke Fortney
