"Opening at 3010 West Anderson Lane, Suite E in the North Shoal Creek neighborhood on Saturday, January 27, Golden Eye Chocolates is a new retail shop from former Chocolaterie Tessa staffers Lynde Mitchell and Jess Morrisey. I found the shop is all about decadent chocolates in classic and fun flavors made with European and American chocolates—examples include pumpkin bread, aged eggnog, passionfruit caramel, the banana-rum “There’s Always Rum in the Banana Stand,” Champagne Problems, and classic chocolates in varying dark percentages. When developing flavors Mitchell encouraged Morrisey to "go wild," resulting in tricky confections like Mitchell’s Coconut Club (her take on a Mounds bar that required a longer-lasting ganache) and Morrisey’s three-layer raspberry cheesecake with carefully balanced raspberry jelly, cream cheese ganache, and graham-cracker crust. Chocolates will be available a la carte and boxed, and the shop will also sell spreads, barks, lollipops, and chip-style takes. Golden Eye started in 2021 making pickups at Ghostline Kitchens; the McKinney pickup location will remain open when North Shoal opens. The name references a Central Texas flower and the goldeneye duck. Future plans include a production-room window and build-your-own box sets by October, and they’re considering offering ice cream scoops by Merry Monarch. Hours will be noon–6 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and the opening day will feature a noon–6 p.m. party with tastings, music, and drinks." - Nadia Chaudhury
