"Inspired by Tokyo’s record bars, Longplay Studio is now playing vinyl and pouring Japanese-style slow-brewed coffee in Sherman Heights, operating as a pop-up listening and creative space with a temporary capacity of five guests at a time due to COVID-19 restrictions. The Imperial Avenue spot brings a Chicano vibe to the concept through its selection of sounds, artwork, and cross-border café program, focusing on curated vinyl played on high-end audio equipment during business hours and hosting live DJ set streams on Saturday mornings via Twitch. Coffee offerings include flash-chilled Chemex pour overs, cold brew, and a house take on the vanilla oat latte made with a special blend provided by a Tijuana roaster; starting in October the studio plans to showcase a featured roaster quarterly. A rotating selection of Tijuana-style burritos—slimmer than typical SoCal taco shop versions and filled with guisados—is available in vegan and non-vegan options for takeout in limited batches, and the studio currently operates by RSVP Thursday through Saturday via Instagram @longplay.hifion." - Mario A.
