"Tucked behind a faded sign at 1031 East 24th Street showcasing a guitar-chasing piranha, the gritty Heights property that houses Dan Electros Guitar Bar is still rockin’. After 35 years serving the neighborhood, it’s enjoying a renaissance under new owners Alex Jackson and Will Thomas, who kept the rustic, eclectic charm while fixing broken parts and upgrading the sound system, lighting, and adding eight TVs. The 2,500-square-foot room still has tables and booths around the stage, a colorful neon piranha backdrop, walls hung with art and old music posters donated by longtime patrons, and I love that the swoon-worthy aroma of buttery popcorn from an old-fashioned machine still greets you at the door. The sprawling 5,000-square-foot fenced patio was revamped into a festive gathering place with more seating, a large projector screen, and rotating pop-up food vendors; a dedicated 800-square-foot second-level lounge off the patio now serves as private event space. With a full beverage program of local craft beer, wine, seasonal cocktails and rotating frozens, nightly live music featuring mostly local talent across genres (bluegrass, country, jazz, blues, folk, funk, rock), and mostly no-cover shows, it remains a reliable neighborhood bar that still prioritizes live music while also being a place to grab a drink and watch football." - Megha McSwain
