"A French bakery that began as a popular vendor at San Diego’s farmers’ markets has opened its first storefront in Little Italy at the base of the Continental Lofts building. Bonjour Patisserie is the brainchild of founder and head pastry chef Romain Mores, whose love of cooking started in his grandmother’s kitchen in Bordeaux; he pursued a baking internship in middle school, apprenticed as a pastry chef, and moved to San Diego at 21. In 2020 Mores and his wife, Marissa, launched the bakery out of a commercial kitchen, making cakes and event desserts and running stalls at markets including North Park and Mission Valley; they’ll keep a presence at the weekly Little Italy and Hillcrest markets while focusing on the new Little Italy café. Open Tuesday through Sunday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. or until they sell out, the pastry counter is stocked with an extensive selection of sweet and savory pastries and breads—almond and chocolate croissants, apple or brie-and-fig-jam danishes, and prosciutto-and-cheese-stuffed baguettes—as well as individual and large-format desserts like macarons, raspberry tarts, flan Parisien, and French strawberry cake; many items are available in gluten-free and vegan versions. In addition to coffee and tea, they hope to pour beer and wine eventually to offer mimosas at brunch and beverage pairings with desserts in the evenings." - Candice Woo
