"Opened in 1964, I note that the original Nye’s Polonaise Room operated as a largely unchanged supper club, bar, piano lounge and event space until it shuttered last year; its vinyl glitter booths and appearances by the World’s Most Dangerous Polka Band were longtime fixtures. The iconic room was ultimately demolished and the valuable site at 112 Hennepin Avenue East is now a luxury apartment building, which helps explain why the reuse of the Nye’s name for the new spot has provoked strong feelings." - Joy Summers
