"Opening April 26 in Boston’s Seaport District at 119 Seaport Blvd., Taiyaki NYC brings an extravagant, photogenic ice cream concept—often best on Instagram—known for colorful soft serve swirled atop fish-shaped cones and adorned with toppings like sprinkles and unicorn horns. The founders have planned a full weekend of festivities from April 26–28 (opening-weekend hours: Fri 12–11 p.m., Sat 11 a.m.–11 p.m., Sun 11 a.m.–10 p.m.), including a promotion that gives out a unicorn floatie with purchases of $15 or more; customers can also add a unicorn-shaped inflatable drink raft to the taro slush for an extra $4. In addition to soft serve, the Seaport shop will serve hot and iced matcha (plain or in latte form), matcha frappes, and taro slush, and while Taiyaki’s fluffy souffle pancakes won’t be available for opening weekend they will eventually be on the Boston menu. This will be the New York–based chain’s fifth location, and its name references the traditional Japanese fish-shaped taiyaki cake, typically filled with red bean paste." - Dana Hatic
