Haley House Bakery Cafe Will Close in Roxbury, at Least for Now | Eater Boston

"This storied community organization that’s been operating for more than 50 years will close its Roxbury bakery and cafe on Saturday, January 12, citing neighborhood changes that have produced losses the bakery “cannot sustain indefinitely.” During the time off, Haley House organizers will strategize ways to reorganize and reopen the cafe for prolonged sustainability, focusing on continuing to serve the Roxbury community while building on the cafe’s legacy of vibrant, community-driven programming and supportive employment opportunities. In the meantime, Haley House will continue its catering, wholesale, and Take Back the Kitchen cooking program, will reopen the bakery temporarily on February 10 for its famed Souper Bowl fundraiser, and will pay terminated employees through February 1; the cafe is just one arm of the decades-old nonprofit, which also runs a soup kitchen, food pantry, live-in community, and more." - Dana Hatic
