"Across the street from the nearly completed One Culver development and the former Sony Pictures Plaza, I found a cycling-focused daytime cafe that opened on June 4. Married partners and bike enthusiasts Kelly and Brandon Jackson originally planned a mobile coffee cart in a 1971 Volkswagen van, but when a space became available they spent a year deconstructing and rebuilding an old stationery store into a shop that sells coffee, pastries, cycling accessories and actual bicycles. The beans hail from Long Beach’s Lord Windsor and baked goods come from just down the street at Larder Baking Company; the team also does some of their own roasts and makes all alternative milks and syrups in-house. The name references the cycling “domestique,” which Kelly says also applies to coffee culture; bike parking racks sit directly out front, the VW cart isn’t entirely off the table, and the cafe is positioned to complement the new retail, dining, WeWork and Equinox tenants at One Culver. Hours are Monday–Friday 7 a.m.–5 p.m. and weekends 8 a.m.–4 p.m." - Mona Holmes
