"Tucked on a sleepy block of Summit Avenue in Capitol Hill, this easy-to-overlook restaurant greets you with a gorgeous marble wrap-around bar, moody lighting, and a fantastic, if amorphous, menu. Executive chef Antonio Palma’s cooking leans Italian but pulls inspiration from all over: while you scan the ever-changing menu, start with thick, airy focaccia (small $9, large $15) and don’t skimp on the umami-loaded, almost sweet black garlic butter. The big-plate star is the tender, juicy pork chop with seasonally changing sides — in winter, a delicate gochujang glace over a bed of creamy grits ($52). The cocktail list brims with creative flourishes, like walnut liquor in an Old Fashion for a nutty layer and a mezcal Negroni with a dose of spicy chile liquor (all cocktails are $16). Small enough that a big party might struggle, it’s exactly the right size for an intimate, romantic dinner. Parking in this part of the Hill can be brutal and public transportation isn’t super convenient; in a pinch, a few paid lots and garages sit a few blocks west along Broadway." - Harry Cheadle
