"Launched from a gorgeous yellow 1964 Citroën van in July 2018 by Emerson Haro and Tony Yuan to caffeinate the streets of LA, the operation served until the pandemic and later kept a temporary installation for dry goods and roasted beans in Century City. After constant breakdowns, the vintage van will be retired, converted (driving parts removed) and parked inside a former fashion and gift boutique at 7748 Santa Monica Blvd in West Hollywood, with a planned May 2021 opening and expedited city approvals. The owners’ Originals program sought to empower farmers by having them roast beans in their origin countries so producers receive substantially higher pay (roughly double what unroasted green coffee would bring); that initiative is on hiatus due to the pandemic but is intended to return while the shop uses locally roasted LA beans in the meantime. Signature drinks include a lavender latte with honey, a salted caramel with Peruvian salt, and a horchata cold brew resembling a tres leches cake inspired by a trip to Yucatán; no prepared food will be served, though pastries and sweets from Farm Shop will be available. The cafe will open as to-go only with preliminary hours of 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily, add outdoor seating as county guidelines loosen, and consider indoor seating later, and the storefront project was developed in partnership with developer Diego Torres-Palma of Ventana Ventures." - Matthew Kang
