"An iconic Googie-style diner on La Cienega Boulevard may be converted to a fast-food fried-chicken outpost after the building was purchased in 2021 by the company behind the chain, which has been leasing it back to the diner; once the lease is up in 2026 the company plans to flip the building in 2027. The Los Angeles Times reports that the diner's iconic sign out front and its menu of all-night diner classics would be replaced by the chain's branding and its signature three-finger combo, Texas toast, and other items. According to the LA Conservancy, the Los Angeles Cultural Heritage Commission will review the proposal on December 5 and is welcoming public comment. The building was designated a Historic-Cultural Monument in 2015, which offers some protections against demolition but does not rule out a business flip or a sign change." - Rebecca Roland
