"A beloved Boston-born quick-serve chain best known for its giant gyros and loukoumades is making its first D.C. foray on Monday, January 15 in Georgetown and will open a second location at Union Market later in the spring or summer. I found that Greco packs portable pitas with its famed fries and a variety of proteins (pork, chicken, lamb, ground beef) and also specializes in pita plates, marinated souvlaki skewers or feasts, Greek salads, avgolemono soup, iced coffee, and sides like halloumi, zucchini chips, and feta-flanked fries dusted with oregano; sizable orders can include a trio of lamb chops with fries, horiatiki salad, tzatziki, and pita. The bright, airy Georgetown space replaces a former &pizza, offers room for about 30 across 2,000 square feet, will be open daily from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., and is offering a $1 gyro on opening day from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Greco debuted in 2017, currently has four Boston locations, and its retail section stocks imported sweets, sea salt, Nescafe, and the brand’s private-label olive oil produced by farms in Sparta; the concept is operated by Xenia Greek Hospitality owners Demetri Tsolakis and Stefanos Oungrinis." - Tierney Plumb
