"Opening in March 2022 on Cathedral Hill, this 208-unit luxury senior living complex at 1001 Van Ness Avenue is the first Coterie in San Francisco and a partnership between Related and Atria; it charges between $8,000 and $25,000 per month and offers amenities like chauffeurs, onsite hair salons, and Mayo Clinic–curated fitness centers. The development is building a tightly curated fine-dining program accessible only to residents and their guests, with a farm-to-table menu, Champagne brunches, chef pop-ups, and a star-backed bar. Executive chef David Lawrence—recruited to shape the dining—will steer a new American bistro-style program using the best seasonal ingredients from around the world, with a rotating prix fixe nightly alongside more cafeteria-like, table-served options (wok station, burgers, grilled steaks) and a smaller on-floor restaurant serving San Francisco favorites like cioppino, clam chowder, and crab Louie for breakfast and lunch; a full room-service menu will also be available. The wine program is curated by master sommelier Emmanuel Kemiji, who will feature some of his own wines and partner with Lawrence on winemaker dinners, and Lawrence says he’s particularly excited to serve a seafood bouillabaisse; the stated aim is to offer residents meals equivalent to any fine dining experience in San Francisco." - Clair Lorell
