Restaurant Matchbooks Are Cool Again in D.C. | Eater DC

"A recently opened spot whose launch included oversized, smartphone-sized matchbox giveaways handed out at the opening and to select VIP guests, and which placed a large order for 50,000 branded matchboxes. The team hired Lillian Ling, the creative director and founder of branding studio Stray Rabbit, to develop the look. Co-founder Farid Azouri emphasizes attention to detail in both product and experience: "We did not cut any corners [in developing River Club], especially in terms of the design, ingredients we use, even the sound system," and "We decided when we're going to offer something, we're not going to go for the cheap option." On the marketing value he notes, "Fifty thousand people eventually will have a little branded item in their home. It is a great marking tool." - Hannah Yasharoff
