"A semi-secret Japanese coffee hangout tucked off Spring Street brings a kissaten’s Old-World charm to Chinatown, with vintage-inspired, homey antique furniture and cozy corners washed in natural light—“like a speakeasy for coffee,” as owner Dominic Abat puts it. Opened June 28, the cafe blends Los Angeles and Japan on the menu, pouring beans from Japanese roaster Blacklight Coffee alongside breakfast items like egg sandos on fluffy milk bread and pastries sourced from Cafe Tropical. Signature drinks nod to classic kissaten sweets — the Kissa soda float, strawberry sesame latte, cantaloupe milk cream top, and matcha coconut — and the space is meant to be flexible for daytime work or meeting friends, delivering the “next level” hospitality Abat honed at AOC, Bavel, and Pizzeria Sei. The name, design, and logo pay homage to his late grandmother Cora: a Spanish “Corazón” for the heart of LA. Plans include extended hours with evening music, plus wine, beer, sake, and savory comforts like pizza toast and curry. Open Tuesday to Sunday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m." - Lila Victor
