"As Los Angeles’s premier large-format outdoor venue for the past century, the Bowl seats about 17,500 and has been an iconic place for generations to enjoy musical, theater, comedy, and movie performances — the Los Angeles Philharmonic has been performing here since the 1920s. It’s hosted historic shows from the Beatles in 1964 to Jimi Hendrix in 1967 and a memorable mariachi concert in 1990; many Angelenos recall bringing picnics and takeout while parents opened bottles of wine as kids listened to world-class orchestral music. Owned by Los Angeles County, the Bowl’s mission emphasizes accessibility and affordability (including many $1 tickets throughout the summer), and its season now typically runs from May into mid-November. Note that parking is very difficult (bring a shuttle plan), and bring-your-own wine and beer are allowed for most LA Phil and non-licensed shows, though many big bands and artists do not accommodate outside booze. Eight years ago Sodexo Live partnered with chef Suzanne Goin and restaurateur Caroline Styne to elevate dining, adding two full-service restaurants, a full-service box-seat program, and numerous casual and grab-and-go options reflecting California’s diaspora cuisines and produce, while leaving takeout and picnic areas available across the venue." - Matthew Kang
