"After 28 years I watched Assab close its doors at 2845 Geary Boulevard when owners Matheos Yohannes and Mehret Tesfalidet announced their retirement, writing, “There is a time for everything and that time has arrived for us.” Their Eritrean cuisine — meat and vegetable sambusas, ground beef kitfo on spongy injera bread, and lentil and okra stews — earned a loyal following, and Yohannes thanked customers for repeat visits, kind words and good reviews.
