"In Ucassaim I encountered a family tavern that originally opened in 1967 and was relaunched in 2021 when the family returned, expanding the bar into the front yard; it’s sparsely furnished with indoor and outdoor seating and a carrom table, and it leans on straight liquor rather than cocktails. The food focuses on familiar Goan bar snacks—chonak (Asian sea bass), squid, prawns in various preparations, chicken or beef chile fry, and fries—and the place is run by Ninoshka, who serves drinks, chats with customers, and helps keep a convivial, family-like atmosphere where regulars gather, pets roam, and holiday celebrations and quiz nights are common." - Joanna Lobo
