"A new tapas restaurant called Asaysia is slated to debut next week in downtown Detroit near the borders of Harmonie Park and Greektown. The restaurant, owned by general manager Matt Palmer, will be the first of three projects that will fill a 16,500-square-foot space at 1452 Brush St., according to a release. The 5,000-square-foot Asaysia Plates to Share will seat 150 patrons in a space decked out in stainless steel, quartz, and vintage furnishings including booths made from reclaimed church pews. Rounding out the space, customers can expect to see photos of well-known Detroiters at the entrance and “a representation of the renowned artist Diego Rivera’s Detroit industry murals.” Asaysia’s menu, developed by chef Larry Middlebrooks, will feature options like stone-fired pizza, caesar salad, cast iron-seared pork chops, and more. From the bar, look out for wines selected by sommelier Filippo Morandi alongside beer and cocktails. The restaurant is scheduled to open to the public on March 15 for dinner and will eventually add lunch and brunch service. Meanwhile, two more sister projects are in the works surrounding Asaysia. An unnamed high-end restaurant is expected to open this spring, followed by a more casual restaurant geared to sports fans. Asaysia will open from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday; 4 p.m. to midnight Friday and Saturday." - Brenna Houck
