"While taking a cooking class at Mundo Ceiba, a foundation that promotes slow food, biodiversity, and bicycling, I asked its director, chef Rubén García, where to buy vanilla beans; he gave a 'welp' face and said extract is everywhere but whole beans are scarce. García pulled a jar of honey from behind the counter, offered me a taste (floral and citrusy) and, though he wouldn't sell it, offered to call friends who might have beans." - Jamila Robinson
