"Set in a reclaimed 7,500-square-foot former industrial laboratory in Cannareggio, this is the first consumer-facing outpost for the famed Select aperitif and a first-of-its-kind multiuse operation in Venice. The two-level, four-area venue—reimagined by design studio Marcante-Testa with preserved wooden rafters and patches of exposed brick—centers on a massive ovular bar for tastings and mixology classes focused on Venetian Spritzes made with Select, Prosecco, and soda and served alongside cicchetti. Spritzes made with Select are described as more complex, less sweet, rhubarb-tinged red, and typically garnished with olives rather than fruit; other cocktails such as the Americano and Negroni will also be available using Gruppo Montenegro’s portfolio (Amaro Montenegro, Edgar Sopper London Dry Gin, Rosso Antico Vermouth, brandies, and grappas). An upstairs educational section chronicles a century of history beginning with the Pilla Brothers in 1920, overlooks a large events space, and features a glass partition revealing active production—where the maceration of herbs and spices takes place—on the banks of the Rio Madonna dell’Orto canal. The site is currently used for private rentals and Select-powered experiences and is slated to open fully to the public early next year." - Brad Japhe
