The ranch depends on around 150 canyon mules for transport and benefits from park food-waste programs—kitchen scraps such as shriveled apples, melon rinds and carrot shavings are veterinarian-approved and reserved for mule meals—helping divert food waste from landfills and support animal nutrition." - Emily Hochberg
