"To call this a pub with rooms is to do it a serious dis-service. After opening in 2008, owners Brittany and Guy Manning worked tirelessly to build up the Lion’s culinary reputation (they met whilst working at Per Se, Thomas Keller’s New York restaurant), and their efforts soon paid off. But rather than rest on their laurels, they then gave themselves a new challenge: to open an accompanying guesthouse. Located a 2-minute walk from the pub, in a gloriously quiet spot overlooking the River Avon, the 5 bedrooms are enormous, and fully specced out with mod cons and private terraces. The setting is about as beautiful as our British countryside gets, with pleasant walks and trout fishing from the doorstep, and heritage sites a stones throw away. Combined, Red Lion offers the charm of a proper rural pub, along with food that absolutely wows and a great night's sleep. Guy and Brittany are still the driving force behind the restaurant, the front of house, and the guest house. Service and quality is outstanding across the board. If you're looking for a romantic country bolthole to treat yourselves, we can think of nowhere better. Highs Superb food, but without all the stuffiness and fuss that tends to go along with fine dining The setting - a picturesque village, and there's a sunny pub garden for alfresco dining Fabulous, friendly service Great walking from your doorstep; trout fishing onsite, golf nearby, or visit Stonehenge and Salisbury Thoughtful attention to detail - we loved the hangover cures by your bed, homemade biscuits, Pictionary for rainy days, and complimentary Buck's Fizz or Bloody Mary at breakfast! Lows You'll need to book well ahead, especially if you want to have dinner during your stay (lunch is less busy) Breakfast is served in the pub between 9-10am; some people may prefer an earlier or longer service, but we didn't feel rushed at all Not a full-service hotel, but they do a good job of covering all the bases they can Closed Sunday, Monday and Tuesday" - Kate Parsons
