"Like all good cha chaan tengs, Smile House Cafe is a gathering space more than anything else. Even on a misty Sunday night, the space has the energy of an elementary school cafeteria thanks to the all-ages groups that pack into the yellow booths. Join them to sip on milk tea out of matching Lipton cup-and-saucer sets, or to inhale a hoi nam chicken over rice (you’ll want to bottle up the ginger scallion sauce and hoard it by the barrelful). Not every dish is a hit—you can skip the forgettable beef brisket noodle soup—but there’s enough variety and more hits than misses that you’ll leave satisfied. video credit: Julia Chen photo credit: Julia Chen video credit: Julia Chen Pause Unmute" - Julia Chen
