Rossy’s Bakery Review - East Village - New York - The Infatuation

"Rossy’s is a Dominican cafe that’s open for takeout and delivery every day from 8am to 7pm. They make cakes, juices, and plump sugar donuts that often sell out before the end of the day. Although this Dominican spot in Alphabet City is first and foremost a bakery, they also have a full counter dedicated to various stews and roasted meat like pollo guisado and pernil, as well as crispy pastelitos filled with ground beef and partially melted queso cubes. The savory options here change every day, but you can always count on bistec con salsa. Get a plate of this tender steak (or whatever protein of the day looks most exciting to you), along with white rice, red beans, and plantains. If you need a place to sit while you eat (Rossy’s has no indoor or outdoor dining options right now), walk a few blocks to Tompkins Square Park and find a bench near a French bulldog without a care in the world. . Food Rundown Morir Soñando A cold, orange-based dairy drink that’s popular in the DR. It’s refreshing and delicious any time of the day. If you prefer your morir soñando to be more milky than it is citrus-y, Rossy's will bring you great joy. photo credit: Adam Friedlander Bistec Con Salsa This steak is always on the menu, and it’s incredibly tender and garlic-forward. Make sure to add white rice, red beans, and plaintains. The rice instantly soaks up the garlic and tomato flavors from the steak, and the textural contrast from the sweet plantains and soupy red beans are like a barbershop quartet in food form. Pastelitos Flat, wide, and delicately crimped on the outside. Rossy’s makes their pastelitos with a variety of fillings like pulled chicken, cheese, or beef and cheese. Do we wish we could pad the inside of our purses with these? Yes. But we fear they would lose their crispness, and also that our purses may smell like queso. Now that we’re on the subject, though, there are worse purse smells. photo credit: Adam Friedlander Flan No matter when you go, make sure to grab at least one sweet dish like dulce de leche cake or a piece of flan that’s shimmering with syrup like it’s getting ready to go out. The flan is fairly firm, and not too sweet. It’s delicious." - Hannah Albertine
