Taqueria El Farolito Review - Mission - San Francisco - The Infatuation

"San Francisco, and the Mission in particular, is filled with taquerias. So many, in fact, that it can be pretty overwhelming to decide where to get a precious foil-wrapped meal on any given day. But El Farolito stands out from the rest—and they've done so since 1983. It’s the undisputed champion of the town-wide taqueria show, all thanks to their tender, well-spiced carne asada, carnitas, and al pastor. That, plus the fact that their super burritos are flawless, consistent, and delicious, whether you eat one after a night out around Valencia Street or for lunch on a random Wednesday. Each is approximately the size of a newborn baby, and stuffed with that flavorful meat and the ideal ratios of sour cream, guacamole, and cheese. It’s virtually impossible to go wrong at this cash-only spot. And while a super burrito is our go-to, another foolproof order is their stunner of a quesadilla, which is a messy, glorious experience in itself. Or if you really want to be methodical about it, try one of each meat in taco form. For research. Food Rundown photo credit: Melissa Zink Super Burrito With Carne Asada The carne asada at El Farolito is the best of all the meats, and getting it in super burrito form is always our go-to. The steak is tender and perfectly cooked, and mixes together with all the fixings to facilitate one burrito-fueled, out-of-body experience. Super Quesadilla Suiza This isn’t so much a quesadilla as it is a late-night, drunken rite of passage. It’s huge, slightly chaotic, and at its most delicious at 2am after a night of bar-hopping. Al pastor, all the way." - Julia Chen
