Bolo - Review - Rittenhouse - Philadelphia - The Infatuation
"It’s a shame that the food at Bolo isn’t better. The Latin American fusion restaurant just off Rittenhouse Square is stunning, complete with a 60-seat, plant-filled dining room that opens up to a huge skylight. The sexy first-floor lounge area is usually busy with friends and first dates drinking cocktails, and larger groups playing table-tetris with their dinner. But the menu, packed with way too many ceviches, cuchifritos, piscolabis and pinchos, is full of overpriced, mostly mediocre dishes. The fritters and empanadas are over-fried and under-seasoned, the skewers are undercooked, and the massive main dishes range from unremarkable to seemingly rancid (steer clear of both the whole red snapper and vaca frita). If you’ve been lured here by a co-worker or date, have a drink at the bar (the bartenders are extremely attentive and make a mean Coco Bolo), admire the Caribbean-inspired interior design, and head elsewhere nearby to eat." - Alison B.
