Il Porcellino Grasso - Review - Financial District - San Francisco - The Infatuation

"On a busy street in FIDi, populated by the corporate lunch crowd, you’ll find Il Porcellino Grasso. It's a small Italian-style sandwich shop with hot panini, cold sandwiches, and a selection of canned Italian goods alongside a rotating soup and custom salads. The focus is on cold cuts, with mortadella, prosciutto, and soppressata taking center stage. Most of the sandwiches seem promising at first, but we’re sad to report that they’re all basically bone-dry. The Don with mortadella, prosciutto, soppressata, provolone, and (supposedly) balsamic was poised to be a winner, but we found about as much balsamic as there’s water in Death Valley. The same was unfortunately true of the other five sandwiches we tried. Still, their saving grace is the custom sandwich option, where you can ask them to load it up with two spreads. And sure, for $14 you could do worse in FiDi—at least this place has a bit more charm (thanks to the friendly staff and the mere presence of seating) compared to the factory line that is Ladle & Leaf around the corner. Honestly, you're better off heading to Lou’s right down the street instead." - Ricky Rodriguez
