"At Karashibi Miso Ramen Kikanbo Kanda Honten, you can have both mouth-on-fire peppers (kara) or tongue-tingling peppers (shibi). They’re known for combining mouth-numbing peppers with spicy chiles in a thick miso broth over chewy noodles that’s topped with huge chunks of tender chashu pork, fresh cilantro, and mounds of wok-cooked bean sprouts. In Japanese, kikanbo means oni’s club, the spiked weapon of an ogre-like demon creature from Japanese folklore. So, yes, that means there really is some monstrous heat lurking in every bowl. That theme carries across all decorative elements both inside and outside the shop, oni club door handles included. If spice isn’t your thing, you can still adjust the heat to your preference—we found the futsu, or normal, level to have a gentle spice kick that most people can probably handle. Despite it being larger than the average store, there will almost always be a line, so be prepared for a long wait." - Kiera Wright-Ruiz
