Her Thai - Review - Mid-City - Los Angeles - The Infatuation

"Her Thai is the third pronoun–related restaurant from the couple behind Met Him At A Bar and Met Her At A Bar, and it’s surprisingly our favorite of the bunch. This tangerine-colored spot in Mid-City casts a wide net with its street food menu, from bowls of sweet khao soi to lacy Thai omelets and larb that’s mild on the chilis but potent in citrusy zing. There’s a separate vegan menu for plant-based folks looking for tofu curry, plus a Thai-inspired “Tiger Dog” that’s the first time we’ve had crushed peanuts as a hot dog condiment (it works). Her Thai is speedy with its woks, so use this spot for a quick dinner or bite taking down a beer flight at All Seasons across the street. Food Rundown Chicken Larb A solid larb. We miss the sinus-clearing spice typically found in this meaty Isaan salad, but at least it’s tangy and nutty from lime juice and roasted rice powder. photo credit: Sylvio Martins Som Tum Her Thai’s papaya salad follows the same blueprint as its larb: not spicy at all, but bright and zippy. The balanced sweet-salty dressing comes through, and the fresh shredded papaya delivers a nice crunch. photo credit: Sylvio Martins Kai Jiow Look at how light and fluffy this omelet is. It drapes over the rice like a soft blanket. It’s stained from a few splashes of Maggi mixed in, too, giving it lots of salty umami flavor. The tomato-y chili sauce on the side lends some heat but isn’t strictly necessary. photo credit: Sylvio Martins Smiling Tiger This overcooked steak with steamed broccoli felt like a record scratch during an overall solid meal. The side of chili dipping sauce was missing the chili but was still tasty. photo credit: Sylvio Martins Kao Soi Kai The curry broth in this giant bowl is a smidge too sweet, but there’s still plenty to love. The giant chicken leg has a juicy snap to it after getting familiar with the orange curry, and the kitchen doesn’t skimp on fresh cilantro and crispy noodles. If you order this for yourself, don’t expect to have room for much else. photo credit: Sylvio Martins" - Sylvio Martins
