La Rose Review - Cobble Hill - New York - The Infatuation

"La Rose is a mostly take-out pizza place, but don't try to eat a slice at this Cobble Hill spot standing up. Like all the best pizza from Michigan, the Detroit-style pies here have ladlefuls of drip-prone red sauce, and a hot, almost-burnt, crispy cheese crust. Add on toppings like pepperoni and stracciatella, and you’ve got yourself a complex creation that requires a chair—or at least a seat at the tiny counter inside or the small table out front. The pizzas can get pretty involved here, with everything from meatballs or fennel sausage, to anchovies and boquerones on one slice—but we tend to like the ones with simpler combinations. Order at least one of the white pies as well as the Dirty Martini, which is even better than its name suggests. On a nice day, add a few Peronis to your order and head down to Brooklyn Bridge Park. photo credit: La Rose Pizza photo credit: La Rose Pizza photo credit: La Rose Pizza Food Rundown Dirty Martini The cheese on this pie is studded with a variety of olives, and then topped with big spoonfuls of thick, slightly spicy vodka sauce. Order this. The Lucia If you’re a diehard fan of a pepperoni slice with heavy hot honey drizzle, go for The Lucia. It’s got everything you love, plus creamy stracciatella and chunky pesto. OPP We love a pepperoni jalapeño pizza of any kind, but the fact that these jalapeños are pickled makes things even more interesting. Tom Green If you love a white pie, survey says you and the Tom Green are going to become fast friends. Even for pizza-eaters who love a lot of toppings, there’s a lot going on: smoked mozzarella, ricotta, pesto, caramelized onions. Plus mushrooms. And also lemon zest. Yet it somehow all comes together." - Willa Moore
