GT Fish & Oyster Review - River North - Chicago - The Infatuation

"GT Fish & Oyster has a small plates menu meant for sharing, and it works well when you want to order a bunch of seafood in River North, and don’t want to spend a ton of money. The oysters are fantastic, and you should get an array to start things off. And the rest of the seafood dishes will not do you wrong. We recommend going heavy on the small dishes (like the oyster po boy sliders and fish tacos) and mix in a larger plate or two depending on the size of your party. The dinner vibes at GT remind us of cocktail attire yachting, which is a new term we just made up. Think nautical-themed restaurant, but instead of white or pastel colors you might associate with sailing, GT is dimly lit, has black seats, wood tables, and gives off a trendy but not overly fancy feel. The decor doesn’t change during the day, but a lot of natural sunlight softens the mood and makes for a more casual feel. Food Rundown Oysters This seems self explanatory, but they have a nice selection to choose from. Oyster Po’ Boy Sliders I once thought about ordering only oyster po’ boy sliders with kimchi and peanuts. The goal was to see how many I could eat and call it a day - 60 or so. Safe to say that’s a ridiculous idea, but it’s also safe to say you should have at least one for yourself. Broccoli Salad A good non-seafood veggie side to get in the mix. We like this cold broccoli salad with sesame, fennel, almond, and morel mushrooms. Octopus Meaty grilled octopus with chickpeas, kohlrabi, beets, and onion. It’s a good combo of flavors. Tuna Poke Quality tuna with some mango, cucumber, and black sesame. The fish itself is good enough, but the sweet flavor from just a bit of mango is a nice touch. Maine Lobster Roll We are going to make a bit of a statement here and say unless you happen to be craving a lobster roll, skip it. It’s good, but we don’t think you need to come here for a small market price lobster roll and fries that usually runs at least $30 or more. Fish Tacos Pretty standard with some sort of white flakey fish. Usually pretty good. Mussels Another dish we don’t love. Big, plump mussels, but the roasted tomato sauce is too much of a standard marinara. We’d prefer these mussels in a lighter white wine base ordeal. Biscuits And Lobster Gravy We’d be remiss not to mention that brunch here is totally legit. The and are our favorites. Don’t forget a side of Neuske’s bacon for good measure and oysters to start." - Sam Faye
