Amalfi may feel like a private club, but everyone can (and should) eat here - Review - Houston - The Infatuation

"Having dinner at Amalfi feels like joining a secret society. It functions like Tanglewood’s private Italian kitchen, as both staff and diners, who are all regulars, greet each other on a first-name basis. And it makes sense folks would return here night after night with food this incredible. Like the ravioli made with pistachio-green pasta dough stuffed with truffle and taleggio. Or tender grilled octopus crusted in herbs. And even though dinner here feels like crashing someone’s wedding because everyone seems to know one another and most people seem to cram in around the same time, it’s a restaurant that you can (and should) visit. photo credit: Quit Nguyen Pause Unmute Food Rundown Polpo Arrostito Caponata E Patate Amalfi knows how to cook octopus. This one has a slight char with just enough crispy texture. And the entire dish is rubbed with herbs, chimichurri, and even more herbs. Pasta Chitarra Allo Scoglio Seafood lovers, this is your pasta. It contains six different kinds of crustaceans and mollusks laced with a slightly spiced tomato sauce. Each bite could turn anyone into a seafood truther. Ravioli Al Pistacchio Con Taleggio E Tartufo Con Ragù Di Cinghiale This ravioli checks a lot of boxes. It’s bright green (a box we didn’t know we had until now) with a dialed-in al dente texture and a hint of truffle, balanced with an earthy boar ragu. photo credit: Quit Nguyen Filetto Di Branzino Arrostito Patate E Capperi Branzino filets are usually thin, and the ones at Amalfi are no exception. But somehow each bite tastes uncharacteristically rich, as if these fish were on an all-butter diet. Tiramisu We appreciate that this tiramisu arrives in a glass goblet, allowing for maximum spoon-to-fluffy mascarpone cream contact. Torta Di Pere E Ricotta This dish looks like a bright green tea cake. It’s spongy, only slightly sweet, and the pieces of gummy pear inside the cream break up its soft texture." - Chelsea Thomas
