"Simmer & Steamer in the FiDi—the first U.S. location of this popular Korean chain—is a fast-casual spot built for efficiency. The tight menu of six rice bowls is designed to get people in and out as quickly as possible. You'll typically find just few people working here, assembling ready-made ingredients into compostable boxes for a line of office workers escaping their desks for lunch. The setup is simple: rice, meats (for vegetarians there's an egg and rice option), and curries are layered on top of each other, and then garnished with pre-sliced veggies and freshly cracked sous vide eggs. While this pre-made approach keeps things moving, it comes with some drawbacks. The rice gets a bit mushy, and certain meats, like the pork belly end up with too much chew. Nothing here will have you taking Muni across town for it, but at less than $9 per bowl, it's a solid lunch option and likely one of the cheapest in the area." - Patrick Wong
