"Whether you’ve lived in London all your life or you’re only familiar with Oxford Street, you’ve probably heard the name ‘Maroush’ before. They’ve got several branches around London, but their original Lebanese restaurant has been around since 1981, proudly taking a prime spot on Edgware Road. While the quality has taken a nosedive in the last few years, it remains a stalwart for late-night wraps and last-minute dinners, and as long as you stick to the foolproof classics like hummus and dripping, meaty shawarmas, you’ll have a decent meal. Inside, the crowd is a mix of loud families piling in for a casual dinner, and passersby who strolled in after venturing too far past Primark. The mood can be stagnant, so don’t come here for anything other than a speedy stop-off on your way home. photo credit: Aleksandra Boruch photo credit: Aleksandra Boruch photo credit: Aleksandra Boruch photo credit: Aleksandra Boruch Food Rundown photo credit: Aleksandra Boruch Hommos Thick, nutty hummus that hits the spot, even with the limp, barely warmed-up bread. photo credit: Aleksandra Boruch Shawarma Chicken Wrap The wraps here are an easy win. It’s not the best shawarma, or most generously filled, but if you get some toum and extra pickles on the side, it’ll do. Fattet Hommos B’laban Maroush is best when you keep things simple, so steer clear from this fatteh or anything that isn’t grilled meat wrapped in bread." - Rianne Shlebak
