Bona Fide Deluxe Review - Candler Park - Atlanta - The Infatuation
"Sub sandwiches paired with sophisticated cocktails in a retro bistro setting is the dining situation we never knew we needed. From the team behind , this Edgewood-Candler Park spot has so many loveable quirks and brings a refreshing creativity to the sandwich genre. But consistency issues and some overblown prices make this a place we’d only circle back to every once in a while. For starters, the bar has bright purple stools that give the room an intense pop of color, and at night, neon purple lights under the bar counter beckon us to the cocktails (get the refreshing gin-heavy Banshee, served in a dainty glass). But the true decor triumph is a hodgepodge of old home lighting fixtures that had to have been snatched from some forgotten antique warehouse. We did say it’s eclectic. But if dino dioramas (peep ‘em behind the bar) and patchwork chandeliers aren’t your thing, there’s a large outdoor patio and plenty of long picnic tables with umbrellas to spread out and devour a sandwich or two. While the aesthetics are a fun jumble of odd bits and bobbles that somehow comes together, we honestly can’t get over the prices. We’re used to the sandwich-chip combo, so it feels like a crime to pay $18 with no side or drink included. It hurts even more when we get a dud like the dry as hell Chopped Chicken sandwich. Unfortunately about half the time we’ve eaten here the sandwiches have issues (ranging from soggy bread to being dry as a desert). And even on days when we’re blessed with an expertly assembled sandwich like the gooey Okie Hoagie with smoked top round, the high price tag is tough to swallow. But every once in a while, a bougie sandwich and a cocktail is the move. And for days when that feeling hits, this spot is a bona fide choice. " - Juli Horsford
