The Good Wolf - Review - Andersonville - Chicago - The Infatuation

"The Good Wolf in Andersonville comes from the Little Bad Wolf team, and is decent for a nice-but-still-casual drink date or a friends’ dinner. Like its similarly lupine-named sibling just steps away, the menu covers the New American restaurant bases—all of which aren’t revolutionary, but solid. Fried appetizers like shrimp de jonghe, handhelds like wagyu sliders, and larger entrees like duck gnocchi feel like members of Little Bad Wolf’s B team, but are still tasty while sipping a cocktail like the fruity, rum-based Siren’s Song. The Good Wolf’s buzzy, dark space has a speakeasy level of intimacy, with chatter from the packed tables and bar mixing with Hozier-adjacent pop and upbeat music that has “drops.” So while the food isn’t the most exciting, there’s still energy to liven the night. Food Rundown Shrimp De Jonghe These tender crustaceans have a satisfying, crunchy breading. They’re extra buttery and salty and are a good option as an appetizer or bar snack. photo credit: Milo Mendoza Sliders If you’re familiar with Little Bad Wolf’s excellent burgers and are expecting this to be a shrink-rayed version, we’re sad to say that’s not the case. But the meat is well-seasoned, and the caramelized onions give these tiny sandwiches a little sweetness. photo credit: John Ringor Gnocchi And Duck The saucy confit poultry and potatoes make each bite taste like a pretty good Thanksgiving plate. Unfortunately, the mushy gnocchi is more reminiscent of mashed potatoes from said Thanksgiving plate than pasta. photo credit: John Ringor" - John Ringor
