"Red Herring is another just-OK restaurant in the sea of just-OK restaurants that occupy the busy Historic Core of DTLA. This place moved from Eagle Rock to Downtown at the end of 2018, and this new version does have some things going for it: The cocktails are killer, the space is beautiful, and even your pickiest friend will be able to find something they want from the menu. The problem is the food, which isn’t bad, just mostly forgettable. Everything from the pork belly with grits to the ricotta toast to the duck confit on a scallion pancake is just… fine. They do have one fantastic dessert, though: A chocolate torte with cocoa nib salsa, which is worth the visit alone. So come here for a low-key date to sit at the bar, eat chocolate torte, and drink cocktails - just make full dinner plans someplace else." - Brett Keating
