Tsuruya

"Tsuruya is great for an under-$40 walk-in date night near the Cal campus—but even non-students should cross town to flock here. The casual ramen spot on Shattuck, with just a few tables and some counter seating, stands out for its simple and beautifully executed bowls. The noodle soups are basically the only things on the menu aside from some shareable appetizers, and they each come with opaque broth you’ll be tempted to lick off the bottom of the bowl. It’s all pretty customizable, but the classic tonkotsu with thick noodles and fall-apart pork belly chashu is the way to go." - Julia Chen
