Tonight & Tomorrow - Review - Montrose - Houston - The Infatuation

"No, you’re not dining in a French chateau. But you are at the most beautiful restaurant in Houston. Tonight And Tomorrow at the La Colombe d’Or Hotel in Montrose doesn’t look like anywhere else in town—it’s the only restaurant in a restored historic 1920s mansion we know of. And the food gives you even more reasons to linger. photo credit: Chelsea Thomas Tonight And Tomorrow’s menu spans from mussels packed with ‘nduja to honey-drizzled milk bread rolls we would order three or four rounds of. And while the server might seem overwhelmed, the feeling of eating in a room straight out of the French countryside makes up for any awkwardness. You just can’t beat cutting into foie gras-stuffed Texas quail while staring at museum-quality works of art (La Colombe d’Or houses an extensive art collection). Tonight And Tomorrow—and the adjoining bar across the hotel lobby—make a romantic spot to admire some dark wood walls and escape Houston traffic, if only for an evening. Food Rundown Cast Iron Milk Bread Rolls Thanks to the ever-so-slight honey glaze on top, these are somewhere between a Parker House roll and a sweet yeast roll. We could eat 20 of these things. Moules Au Pistou This is both well-cooked and seasoned, dressed with sweet-and-spicy ‘nduja and a blanket of savory tarbais beans. However, it’s a bit too heavy as an appetizer, so order it as a stand-alone dish after a salad. Salad Maison Light, simple, and with a little bit of crispy pork lardons—this salad is great for keeping your palate refreshed between bites. Half Chicken Served in a pool of parmesan jus, this chicken is perfectly moist. It had to have been conceived by someone thinking, “How would a perfect roast chicken taste without actually roasting it?” And, the smashed potatoes on the side soak up extra jus for an almost too-powerful bite. Cauliflower Escalope While we love the vadouvan curry flavors in this dish, during one visit the cauliflower and chickpeas were slightly underdone, which made it difficult to enjoy. Gnocchi Parisienne We would snack on these crispy parmesan-stuffed gnocchi nuggets as though they were popcorn, especially with a glass of champagne on the side. Honey Panna Cotta Even though panna cotta is a simple dessert, this honey-infused one must sneak in some god-like nectar, too. Our only complaint is we need more passionfruit curd." - Chelsea Thomas
