A slice of lemon makes all the difference at Fini Pizza - Review - New York - The Infatuation

"It’s amazing, the power hidden inside of one lemon. We know—not exactly a revolutionary thought. But think about a piece of fish, a roast chicken, and fried calamari. All naked without a little squeeze. At Fini Pizza, a Williamsburg slice shop from the people behind pasta temples Lilia and Misi, they serve their white pizza with freshly zested lemon, which is then sliced and served on the side for your squeezing pleasure. It brightens up the heavy cheese, and is just one way you can tell someone’s paying attention in the kitchen. photo credit: Kate Previte photo credit: Kate Previte photo credit: Kate Previte Pause Unmute While the local pizza crown remains firmly planted on L’Industrie’s head (a six-minute walk away), Fini’s slices offer something a little different, like that lemon squeeze, or breadcrumbs on top of the tomato slice. (You won’t find a line here either.) The pizza has a uniformly dappled undercarriage and tends to be chewy, with slices losing their crispness fast—so eat them as soon as they drop into the safe zone temperature for your mouth. You can get a glass of natural wine and make it a casual meal in the bright though bare-bones shop, or grab one of the green lawn chairs right outside. Food Rundown Tomato The tomato slice is excellent at Fini, because they throw a dusting of breadcrumbs on top of the pie after it comes out. There’s lots of texture here, and the tomato sauce is nice and bright, with an underlying savoriness. Order it. photo credit: Kate Previte White Of the standard slices here, this is the one we find ourselves thinking about most. Serving white pizza with fresh zest and a slice of lemon brightens up an otherwise heavy slice of pizza—and we can’t think of anywhere else that does it like this (without also adding clams). Order one. photo credit: Kate Previte Cheese A good slice of pizza. We like the squeaky fresh mozzarella, and the flavor of the tomato balances it all out. photo credit: Kate Previte Pepperoni Same deal as the plain slice, but add in some good quality pepperoni. It’s not going to blow your mind, but it’s a very good slice. photo credit: Kate Previte Sicilian In college towns around upstate New York, you’ll find late night pizza shops where they top hot slices with a big handful of cold, shredded mozzarella—to save the eager mouths of drunk students. The Sicilian slice at Fini is served kind of like that, with an unwieldy amount of thick Parmesan shavings on top. Picking off raw bites of cheese is fun and all, but it’s hard to access the pizza underneath, which is focaccia-like, and with similar toppings to the tomato pie. You don’t need to order this. photo credit: Kate Previte" - Will Hartman
