"Cadinho is a bakery and cafe in McKinley Park specializing in Portuguese pastries. It’s a great spot for your coffee shop rotation, with a handful of tables and plenty of sunlight, but the tarts are the real reason you should come here. The sweet, silky smooth, vanilla-scented egg custard nestled in buttery, flaky pastry is great on its own as a plain pastel de nata, but it’s even better when it’s balanced by a little half-shell of bittersweet chocolate. And while those make us want to hire a banner plane and advertise this place all over Chicago, we’d be equally happy to do the same for Cadinho’s passionfruit pies. Each palm-sized tart has a crisp, short crust that practically dissolves in your mouth, topped with a dollop of curd that’s the perfect level of tartness and sweetness. In case it wasn’t clear—get the tarts. But this place also has a variety of other baked goods like scones, cookies, and quiche. photo credit: Cielo Muñoz photo credit: Maria Rivera" - Veda Kilaru
