Eleanor's - Review - Smyrna - Atlanta - The Infatuation

"Smyrna locals are rightfully obsessed with Muss & Turner’s, a casual lunch and dinner spot that serves up reliable meals. So most of them are familiar with what lies behind an unassuming freezer door that sits just off the dining room. That would be Eleanor’s, a speakeasy that serves all the same M&T food and cocktails, just in a darker room with leather booths. Part of the appeal of coming here is the feeling of exclusivity that pervades just beyond the freezer door entrance. We can confirm the food tastes a little better with muted lighting and our newly found (if faux) VIP status. But mostly you’ll see regular suburbanite drinkers who’ll be tucked in bed by 9pm—but not before sipping on easy-to-drink cocktails with clove-infused rum and smoked apple shrub. photo credit: Sarah Newman Food Rundown The Burger Get this if you’re a burger lover. The patty is made from grass-fed beef and is so tender we’re unsure how it stays packed together in patty form. The cilantro-aioli and poblano pepper spread mixes well with the wood-fired char on the patty. photo credit: Sarah Newman Fries & Dips The house-cut fries are a must—salty with just the right amount of crispiness. Pair them with a few of the dipping sauces, which are also made in house. There are 13 choices in total. Our favorites are the house aioli, garlic mud, and spicy sambal, but you do you. photo credit: Sarah Newman El’s Wings You get eight of these wings covered in a rich ras el hanout spice. Prepare to use the creamy tzatziki dipping sauce that cools the wings down and gives the plump flats and drums a fresh taste. Brown Thrasher The smoked apple shrub taste is heavy in this bourbon drink. But a little touch of maple and a lemon garnish help cut through that smokiness to make this a winner. Death Becomes Her This drink’s hue reminds us of the crayon color burnt sienna that we always pondered about as kids. It comes from the hefty dose of tangy dried cranberries in the cocktail. The clove-infused rum goes down easy and the cinnamon after taste feels like getting extra credit. Get this." - Juli Horsford
