"Beyoncé, Slash, Big Boi, and Andre 3000 are just a few of the Black music icons that look down on you with approval while you enjoy moist, sweet waffles and crackly fried chicken tenders at Flavor Rich's downtown location. But unlike a lot of brunch spots with celeb-plastered walls, great food overpowers cutesy trends here. The food truck-turned-restaurant fills up on weekends, so get there before 10-ish to beat the brunch bunch. Order the french toast flight, which really sets the bar for future french toast expectations. You get four pieces of sweet batter-dipped bread, each with a delicious topping like sweet blueberry with cream cheese icing or thick, moist red velvet cake. And if you go for a drink like the blood orange margarita, expect it to be strong enough to make you think you can sing like the icons on the wall. photo credit: Amy Sinclair photo credit: Amy Sinclair photo credit: Amy Sinclair Food Rundown video credit: Jacinta Howard French Toast Flight You get four mini-pieces of flavored french toast, which could be anything from a dense red velvet cake with cream cheese drizzle or caramelized banana foster with brown sugar and cinnamon. Be prepared to roll with whatever the chef is feeling since you can’t pick your flavors. But trust that they will be gorgeously plated (with a decorative flower and a swirly dollop of velvety whipped cream in the middle) and delicious. Potatoes You can tell a lot about a brunch spot by their potato game. Here, they’re a winner. You get new potatoes halved and crisp-edged, covered in herby seasoning. photo credit: Amy Sinclair Chicken & Waffles The chicken fingers you get with this dish are so crispy and flavorful you could order them as a standalone. But the waffles are light, fluffy and slightly sweet, even without syrup, so why would you do that? Blood Orange Margarita You could start your car with this margarita. You might want to flag down the waiter for some extra juice, unless your plan is to Bankhead bounce your way out the door." - Jacinta Howard
