"From the same team as Chip City, Somedays Bakery in Long Island City (with an original branch in Astoria) specializes in laminated pastries. Their honeycomb-like pistachio lattice croissant is particularly striking—and it is good, though a little cloying when you factor in the raspberry jam filling. We prefer the pain suisse, with a crunchy, glossy exterior and visibly vanilla bean-flecked pastry cream. And the black sesame tahini croissant is as a must-order. It’s right on the edge of too sweet, but the ever-so-slightly bitter earthiness of the tahini frangipane inside grounds it perfectly. We love the crunch from the black sesame brittle on top, too. If you’re looking for something savory, they do a good smoked salmon croissant sandwich, as well as more creative specials (like one with bulgogi). photo credit: Molly Fitzpatrick" - Molly Fitzpatrick
