"If you can take in the display cases at this Lincoln Park patisserie without considering a purchase, we admire your willpower. At Vanille, you’ll find picture-perfect cakes and macarons, and incredible entremets built with an engineer’s precision. Desserts like the flourless chocolate cake topped with layers of chocolate crémeux and dark chocolate mousse enrobed in chocolate shell taste even better than they look, finding the right level of richness without being cloying. And while the croissants aren’t as attractive (they seem to have missed the memo to grow up, not out), what these relatively flat, borderline circular pastries lack in height, they make up for in softness and plenty of surface area to slather on some jam.
