"Of Tabla's two locations, the original Midtown restaurant is the one we prefer because it sits off a low-key street, which makes eating on the patio of this busy neighborhood feel less chaotic. Inside, the dining room continues the chill energy—a minimalist design with a few watercolor art works and modern lighting fixtures hanging above the marble tabletops. And you can de-stress further, knowing whatever you pick off their Indian menu will be tasty and satisfying. Their incorrectly named small plates like duck samosas and kurkuri bhindi actually give generous portions perfect for sharing or eating as your main dish. And when it comes to the entrees, stick to the standout signature dishes like handi gosht served in a bread bowl that ensures no top of the thick gingery sauce goes to waste. Food Rundown Kurkuri Bhindi Thin slices of crispy okra are perfect for sharing at the table because you get such a big portion. Just make sure you get first dibs. Samosas These are among the best samosas we’ve found. They’re giant and you get three in every order. They offer veggie (potatoes, peas, and fennel) and duck stuffed with excellent duck confit. You should absolutely get both. Handi Gosht Get this. Big chunks of goat are braised and set in a bread bowl with a thick gingery, garlicky sauce. This is a good-sized portion, so you have enough to share or take it home. Tikka Masala You can choose your protein for this staple dish, and we usually go with lamb because it’s so tender and pairs well with the creamy tomato-based sauce." - Juli Horsford
