Dilly Dally - Review - Prospect Heights - New York - The Infatuation

"If you live in Prospect Heights, Dilly Dally works perfectly fine as a backup dinner or weekend brunch option. The restaurant, with its pastel coloring and scrapbook-like interior filled with framed prints of things like Babar the Elephant eating a cheeseburger, is a really nice place to sit. Preferably with an on-tap cocktail. The dinner and brunch menus are pretty much the same—the smashburger, served on a very fluffy potato bun, will keep you more than satisfied, but the rest of the food plays second fiddle to the cutesy design of the space. Food Rundown photo credit: Will Hartman Quiche If you’re here for brunch, get this. Creamy, custardy eggs with seasonal vegetables, all set in a pie crust that flakes and crunches like a Southern-style biscuit. Honestly, we’d order this for the crust alone. photo credit: Will Hartman Cheeseburger Let’s be real. You’re going to order the cheeseburger. And you’ll be happy about it, because theirs is a very good, more-smushed-than-smashed burger on a fluffy potato bun with fries that evoke the Golden Arches. photo credit: Will Hartman Eggs in Purgatory A nice version of eggs in purgatory, but not one to go out of your way for. The highlight of the dish is dragging tangy Laurel Bakery sourdough through the sauce. photo credit: Will Hartman Breakfast Plate This breakfast plate is about three-quarters of the way to a Full English. Expect a slick of grease left on your plate when you’re done. There are better eggy breakfast items here, so point yourself that away. photo credit: Will Hartman Crispy Eggplant These little coins of fried eggplant are poppable, salty, and delicious. Start off every meal with them. Classic Caesar Salad As classic as caesar salads get, though ours was pretty overdressed, and therefore, really salty. Smoked Trout Dip A serious squeeze of lemon would do this smoked trout dip good. It’s just a bit too creamy." - Will Hartman
